You catch yourself laughing, and then you remember.
There is still no message. You still do not know when you will see your child again. Maybe another birthday is coming, or you are wondering how much your grandchild has grown since the last photo you received.
For a moment, you were enjoying your life. Now you feel guilty for it.
When you are living with parental estrangement or alienation, even a beautiful day can bring a painful question: How can I be happy when this part of my life still hurts so much?
I created this Reiki circle for estranged and alienated parents and grandparents with that question in mind. It offers guided meditation, gentle music, and space to rest with what you are carrying—without needing to explain your story or figure out what happens next.
When missing your child follows you through the day
Sometimes the grief arrives in obvious moments: a holiday, an unanswered message, an empty place at the table.
Other times, it catches you in the grocery store when you see something your child would love. You reach for your phone to share a small piece of your day, then remember that sending it is no longer simple.
You may replay conversations while washing dishes. Wonder whether reaching out would help or make things harder. Think about everything you wish you had said differently, alongside everything you wish someone understood about you.
For grandparents, there may also be the ache of missing everyday moments: a changing voice, a new interest, a bedtime story you used to read.
Every family’s circumstances are different. Whatever has brought you here, you may be tired of carrying the sadness while trying to look as though you are doing fine.
There is room for that tiredness here.
Does feeling happy mean you are giving up on your child?
A lighter day can feel surprisingly complicated.
You might wonder whether enjoying yourself means you have stopped caring. Whether making plans means you have accepted a future you never wanted. Whether your child would misunderstand if they saw you smiling.
But a photograph of you smiling cannot tell the whole story of what you carry.
You can enjoy dinner with someone you love and still wish your child were there. You can look forward to a trip and still hope for reconciliation. You can experience a peaceful afternoon without making any decision about the future of the relationship.
Your suffering is not the measure of your love.
You do not have to stay visibly heartbroken to prove that someone matters to you. The love is still there when you laugh, rest, create something, or notice that the sky is beautiful.
And if joy feels too far away today, you do not have to reach for it. Perhaps today you would simply welcome a few minutes when nothing is being asked of you.
Acceptance during estrangement does not mean approval
The word acceptance can be difficult when you are missing your child or grandchild.
It may sound like agreeing with what happened, abandoning hope, or deciding that the relationship will never change.
In this circle, acceptance means allowing yourself to acknowledge what is true today, including the parts you wish were different.
You may not have the contact you want. You may have unanswered questions. You may be unable to make another person respond or understand your experience.
Those realities can hurt. You are still allowed to care for yourself within them.
You can hope for change while eating a meal you enjoy. You can leave room for reconnection while making plans for your own life. You can acknowledge regret without spending every quiet moment putting yourself on trial.
You do not have to resolve the relationship before you are allowed to live your life.
A guided Reiki meditation for estranged parents and grandparents
This recorded circle offers a quiet place to explore those feelings through grounding, Reiki, guided meditation, and gentle music.
The guidance makes room for the pressure to change things immediately, the judgments we carry about ourselves and others, and the possibility of experiencing peace alongside grief.
There is no requirement to forgive, find an answer, or arrive at a particular feeling. You are welcome exactly as you are that day: sad, angry, hopeful, exhausted, or unsure what you feel.
To listen, choose a time when you can settle comfortably. Sit or lie down, use headphones if you like, and let the guidance accompany you. You do not need experience with Reiki or meditation.

You can save the recording for an especially tender day or return to it when you need a quiet pause.
Support without having to explain the whole story
I know the ache of estrangement in my own life. That experience is part of why I created this space at Healing Energy Studio.
Sometimes explaining what happened takes more energy than you have. You may worry about being judged, receiving advice you did not ask for, or having to defend why it still hurts.
In my live Reiki circles for estranged and alienated parents and grandparents, participants remain off camera and muted, with no sharing required. You can join from your own space and receive the guided experience privately.
If you would like to be present for a future circle, you can find upcoming availability here:
If you would prefer individual support, I also offer private Parental Support healing sessions on Zoom, with time focused on your experience and what you would like support with.
Let one good moment belong to you
You may still miss your child when the recording ends. There may still be uncertainty, and the next step may still be unclear.
For today, perhaps you can let one good moment happen without asking whether you have earned it.
Enjoy your coffee while it is warm. Let yourself laugh at something funny. Say yes to a plan you would like to make. Allow a peaceful moment to last a little longer before returning to the unanswered questions.
You can love your child through all of it.
If you know a parent or grandparent who feels guilty whenever life gets a little lighter, you are welcome to share this circle with them. Sometimes it helps to hear that love and joy are allowed to exist in the same day.
